DETROIT – General Motors Corp said on Thursday it would invest $500 million in its Lordstown, Ohio, plant to build its new global compact car Chevrolet Cruze.

GM will also manufacture the all-new small car at facilities in Europe and Asia in addition to the Ohio assembly plant, the automaker said in a statement.
