More Just Fix It
A double dosage of things that disappoint

UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER

April 28, 2008

THE SITE: Ridgewood Neighborhood Park in Rancho Peñasquitos.
STILL WAITING 1: It doesn't look like children in Rancho Peñasquitos will have new play equipment at Ridgewood Neighborhood Park in time for summer.

As Just Fix it wrote in June, equipment at the park on Paseo Montril was torn out in fall 2006 because of vandalism. A resident who asked us for help said the equipment wasn't great but shouldn't have been removed until replacements were ready.

We were told that the equipment would be ready by December, and then Memorial Day. The latest estimate is late August. The city has accepted a bid and should award a contract soon. The cost is nearly $253,000.

WHO'S RESPONSIBLE: Darren Greenhalgh, deputy director of the city's Architectural Engineering and Parks Division, who can be reached at (619) 533-6600 and dgreenhalgh@sandiego.gov.

STILL WAITING 2: The city has the permit it needs from the state Coastal Commission to replace a sidewalk atop an eroding bluff in La Jolla.

As we wrote in October, the sidewalk at the foot of La Canada has been blocked off for years. Assuming bids come in close to the $264,000 estimate, a contractor should be selected by early summer. Work is expected to begin in September and take up to two months.

WHO'S RESPONSIBLE: Danny Schrotberger, a project manager for Engineering and Capital Projects, who can be reached at (619) 533-7465 or dschrotberger@sandiego.gov.

NEED A PROBLEM SOLVED: Is there a problem government hasn't taken care of despite your complaints? Whether it's a missing bus bench or an unkempt park anywhere in San Diego County, Just Fix It might be able to help.

Complaint forms are at justfixit.uniontrib.com, or call (800) 820-8714 to describe your problem.
