Residents and merchants have until March 15 to find out whether they are entitled to some of the $500,000 in unclaimed funds held by San Diego County government.
The money is primarily from excess fees paid to departments but not refunded, usually because officials could not find those entitled to it. There are 571 individual overpayment accounts. The largest one holds $59,100 owed to a developer. If the money is not claimed by March 15, it will be added to the county's general fund.
To check the list of unclaimed funds, go to the Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office Web site at http://sdtreastax.com and click on the link for unclaimed monies. The list also is available in Room 152 at the County Administration Center, 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego.
