RAMONA: The man who was accidentally shot and killed by his 10-year-old son at a Cleveland National Forest shooting range Saturday has been identified as Michael Lowery, 46, of San Marcos, said the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
Lowery was pronounced dead at Palomar Medical Center Saturday afternoon.
Lowery and his son had been target practicing when the shooting occurred at the Orosco Ridge outdoor range. Other shooters went to the victim's aid. Sheriff's deputies and paramedics arrived about 3:30 p.m. A helicopter rushed him to the hospital where he died. – H.G.

CHULA VISTA: A man stabbed to death in a neighborhood argument over the weekend has been identified as Danilo Abana, 45, of Chula Vista, the Medical Examiner's Office said.
Chula Vista police said a neighbor confronted Abana in front of his house on Corte Maria near D Street shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday. An argument ensued, and the neighbor pulled out a knife and stabbed Abana repeatedly. Police are investigating what prompted the argument.
Another neighbor tried to intervene and was also stabbed. Abana died at the hospital Saturday afternoon.
The neighbor who came to his aid was hospitalized with serious, but nonlife-threatening injuries. The attacker, who was hit by a brick in the fight, was also hospitalized, said Lt. Tro Peltekian. – H.G.

SAN DIEGO: A 28-year-old man was shot in the back and leg in Chollas View after being confronted by three men in their 20s wearing dark, hooded sweat shirts.
San Diego police said the shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. Saturday on 45th Street near Craigie Street. The victim and two other people were unloading a barbecue grill from a truck on Craigie when three men walked up to them. One had a shotgun.
When the victims tried to run away, the shooter began firing, police said. The armed trio fled on foot. The injured victim was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive.

SAN DIEGO: An armed man robbed The Tubs, a business that rents saunas and jacuzzis by the hour, about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, San Diego police said.
The robber entered the store on El Cajon Boulevard near 72nd Street and pointed a semiautomatic handgun at female clerks and demanded money, police said. He grabbed cash from the register and fled east on El Cajon Boulevard on a bicycle. The robber was described as a black man in his 20s, about 5-foot-6 wearing a hooded windbreaker and dark sweat pants, police said. – H.G.

thrown from his SUV
CARDIFF: A 23-year-old man was fatally injured in a traffic collision on Birmingham Drive west of Interstate 5 early Saturday, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Kristopher Slight, a salesman from Encinitas, the Medical Examiner's Office said.
Slight was driving a Ford Explorer at a high speed when it struck a Chevrolet Silverado whose driver was waiting to make a left turn onto Carol View Drive about 2:15 a.m., the Sheriff's Department said.
The accident was a “massive sideswipe,” Sgt. Chuck Yancey said in a press release. The driver of the Chevy pickup was not injured.
Slight was thrown from his Ford and was taken by helicopter to a hospital where he died yesterday, the Medical Examiner's Office said. A passenger in his car was also taken to a hospital. – H.G. and L.P.
