Another group of SDSU students arraigned in drug sting

SAN DIEGO – Another group of San Diego State University students was arraigned in Superior Court Tuesday on various drug charges for their alleged roles in a campus-wide drug-trafficking ring.

Eleven students and two non-students, all males, all pleaded not guilty to charges ranging from sales to possession.

They were arrested May 6 as part of a federal undercover drug sting dubbed Operation Sudden Fall. A total of 125 people – including 95 students – have been arrested in the operation so far, according to the District Attorney's Office.

More people arrested in the operation are expected to be arraigned Thursday.

Among those arraigned Tuesday was Hung “Leo” Do, 20, who is accused of selling 19 Ecstasy pills on two occasions to an undercover agent outside his apartment complex near campus, said Deputy District Attorney Shawn Tafreshi.

According to court records, in one text message, Do alerted an undercover agent to a new stash: “Hey I just got back and I got these new pills that will blow your mind away. I got 3 different types of quad stacks, so holla at me if you need some.”

A search of Do's apartment turned up Ecstasy, cocaine, marijuana and $6,900 in cash.

Another student, Nicolas Ghosen, 22, came up with a detailed business plan to run part of the drug operation out of the Theta Chi fraternity, Tafreshi said. In a letter to another suspected drug dealer, Ghosen proposed pocketing 10 percent of future sales if he provided bodyguard and bookkeeping services.

Agents found the letter in a shed behind the fraternity house along with several hundred baggies of cocaine, razors, spoons, marijuana and a loaded handgun.

A 22-year-old student pleaded not guilty to possession of Adderall, a brand-name prescription drug used to treat attention deficit disorder. The drug, composed of amphetamine salts, has become a popular “study drug” among college students to help users focus and stay awake during cram sessions or while taking tests.

Other students in court Tuesday ranged from ages 18 to 22.

The two non-students were charged with selling cocaine and conspiring to sell Ecstasy.
