LEMON GROVE – Fire at a mobile home park caused $70,000 damage to a one-story house and forced three adults to find temporary housing Tuesday.
Deputy Chief Tim Smith of the Lemon Grove Fire Department said firefighters also rescued a pit bull from the burning house.
After the fire was extinguished, they found an 8-inch lizard that had survived unscathed inside a cage in a room that didn't burn.
“It was a lucky lizard,” Smith said.
The fire was reported about 10:45 a.m. on North Avenue near Grove Street, Smith said, and was brought under control at 11:07 a.m.
Investigators said the fire was accidental. A gas heater apparently ignited motorcycle parts or gasoline stored nearby.
