LEMON GROVE: A fire at a mobile-home park yesterday morning caused $70,000 in damage to a one-story house and forced three adults to find temporary housing.
Deputy Chief Tim Smith of the Lemon Grove Fire Department said firefighters also rescued a pit bull from the burning house.
After the fire was extinguished, they found an 8-inch lizard that had survived unscathed inside a cage in a room that didn't burn.
“It was a lucky lizard,” Smith said.
The fire at the mobile-home park, on North Avenue near Grove Street, was reported about 10:45 a.m. and was brought under control at 11:07 a.m., Smith said.
Investigators said the fire was accidental. A gas heater apparently ignited motorcycle parts or gasoline stored nearby. –M.A.
