Dozens of students from disadvantaged and juvenile court and community schools lined up at the Mission Valley Target Store to receive free backpacks, $50 gift cards and autographed photos from Padres pitcher Chris Young as part of a back-to-school event sponsored by Target, Lexus Carlsbad, the Padres and the San Diego County Office of Education.

Students from Harbor Community, Monarch School, Polinsky Children's Center and Mission Community schools were transported to the shopping center by buses provided by Lexus Carlsbad for a breakfast and a chance to meet the Padres' "Swinging Friar" mascot.
