TIJUANA: The U.S. Consulate in Tijuana announced yesterday that the office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services located inside the consul will close permanently tomorrow.
The office handled inquiries from U.S. citizens living in the Mexican states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora and Sinaloa. Those issues now will be handled by the Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Mexico City, officials said.
The Tijuana office, which could see as many as 80 people on the few days during the month it was open to the public, mainly steered people to the Web site uscis.gov to resolve their issues. The consulate will continue to offer other services to U.S. citizens in Mexico, including help with lost passports. –J.L.J.
