POWAY: A man was killed in a rollover early yesterday in what sheriff's deputies suspect was a drunken-driving crash.
The Medical Examiner's Office idetified him as Salvador Wong-Valera, 38. He was driving a Ford Explorer south on Pomerado Road near Roberto Way shortly after 2 a.m. when the SUV struck a curb and veered out of control, sheriff's traffic investigator David Cheever said.
It van rolled onto the driver's side door and trapped Wong-Valera inside, Cheever said. He died as emergency workers tried to free him.
His passenger, who suffered minor injuries, flagged down help. He was taken to a hospital and later released.
Cheever said the driver likely was drunk, based on the passenger's statements. –A.M., P.R.
