CAYUCOS – Swimmers and surfers are being warned to stay out of the water at Cayucos State Beach because of high bacteria levels.

San Luis Obispo County health officials posted signs Tuesday after routine water tests showed the water was unsafe.

The county Department of Environmental Health samples 20 popular beaches each week and tests them for several types of bacterial that can indicate unhealthy conditions.
