LOS ANGELES – Erik H. Silva, a member of a Marine battalion based at Camp Pendleton, was killed in action in Iraq, the U.S. Department of Defense announced Sunday.
Silva, 22, of Chula Vista, was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. He died Thursday, the Pentagon said. The circumstances of his death were not immediately disclosed.
The death brings to 11 the number of California residents killed in the war.
