Hey, is this a suite deal? If you're a millionaire

UNION-TRIBUNE

October 12, 2008

Got a few hundred thousand bucks to spare?

The New York Yankees have seven luxury suites priced at $600,000 a season left for sale at their new stadium and the club isn't concerned that the economic crisis will hamper its ability to sell them, Chief Operating Officer Lonn Trost told Bloomberg News.

The $1.3 billion ballpark has 47 luxury suites, though the Yankees aren't selling all of them. Some will be held for corporate sponsors, Trost said Friday. Suites priced from $650,000 to $850,000 already are sold out and for a minimum of five years.

Suites at the new Yankee Stadium feature indoor and outdoor seating, high-definition televisions and a private bathroom. Food isn't included with the cost, though parking is.

Seats at the new Yankee Stadium range from $2,500 for the front row behind home plate to $12 in the bleachers.

TRIVIA TIME

Injured Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and home run king Barry Bonds are in the same Hall of Fame – as Padres. Which Hall of Fame?

ULTIMATE HOCKEY MOM

To a mixture of boos and cheers, Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin dropped the ceremonial first puck at the Philadelphia Flyers' home opener against the New York Rangers.

The Alaska governor heard a few boos when she walked onto the ice last night. But that soon turned to polite applause as she walked out to center ice with Mike Richards of the Flyers and Scott Gomez – from Alaska – of the Rangers.

The NHL said it did not view the Flyers' invitation to be politically motivated.

“Governor Palin is a supporter of the sport, which she has proclaimed publicly,” NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said. “As a public figure who has a very public connection with hockey, her recent associations with the Flyers and other NHL franchises is not surprising and, in our view, not inappropriate.”

POLITICAL CHATTER

“I don't think I'm going to vote. Because I make Republican income, but I need the Democrats in office, so which way do I go?” – Redskins star Clinton Portis.

“I'm always surprised when I'm talking to someone I consider to be more liberal, and then we're talking about money and everything changes. I don't say anything. I just scratch my head.” – Dolphins running back Ricky Williams (Patrick Henry High), a Barack Obama supporter.

TRIVIA ANSWER

Brady and Bonds are members of the Junipero Serra High School Athletic Hall of Fame in San Mateo, home of the Padres. Bonds was inducted in 1992, and Brady in 2004.
