Brandon Dubinsky had a goal and two assists, and linemate Aaron Voros had two goals and three points while pestering Martin Brodeur in the New York Rangers' 4-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Monday night at New York.

Voros scored the second and third Rangers goals, the last coming on a deflection of defenseman Paul Mara's shot that restored the Rangers' two-goal lead 1:39 into the third period. His presence in front of Brodeur provided enough distraction for the tip to go in.

That was just the cushion New York needed to improve to 5-0, matching the team's best start established in 1983.

Canadiens 5, Flyers 3

At Philadelphia, Roman Hamrlik and Michael Komisarek scored 44 seconds apart in the third period to help Montreal rally.

Jeff Carter and Mike Richards scored the final two goals of the second to lift the Flyers to a 2-1 lead going into the third.

Hamrlik, though, erased the lead when he took a nifty pass from Alex Kovalev and slid the puck past Biron from the left slot. Komisarek then gave Montreal the lead for good, when his shot from the point bounced over Biron to make it 3-2.

Andrei Kostitsyn, Robert Lang and Steve Begin also scored for the Canadiens.

Simon Gagne had the Flyers' last goal.

Red Wings 3, Hurricanes 1

At Raleigh, Tomas Holmstrom and Nicklas Lidstrom scored in the first two periods to lead Detroit.

Marian Hossa and Brian Rafalski assisted on Holmstrom's go-ahead goal early in the second period, helping the Red Wings win their second road game in as many tries this season. Ty Conklin added 27 saves to earn the win in his first appearance of the year, while Henrik Zetterberg added an empty-net score with in the final seconds to seal it.

Joe Corvo scored for Carolina, which lost for the first time this season.

Capitals 5, Canucks 1

At Washington, Alexander Semin scored twice, Michael Nylander netted a penalty shot, and Washington limited Vancouver to only 10 shots on goal.

The Capitals broke a franchise record for shots by an opponent, having never before allowed fewer than 11 in a game. The Canucks barely avoided breaking their franchise low of eight.

Mike Green and Milan Jurcina also scored for Washington.

Alexander Edler scored for the Canucks, who totaled 11 goals in their previous two games – both victories over Calgary. But they managed only two shots against Capitals goalie Brent Johnson in the first period, one in the second, and seven in the third.

Sabres 7, Islanders 1

At Uniondale, N.Y., Thomas Vanek scored twice and Ales Kotalik and Jason Pominville each added a goal and two assists for Buffalo.

Jochen Hecht, Adam Mair and Clarke MacArthur also scored for the Sabres, who are 2-0-0 to start the season. Three of Buffalo's goals came on the power play, and they also added a short-handed goal.

Patrick Lalime made 23 saves for the Sabres.

Trent Hunter had the only goal for New York.

Blues 5, Maple Leafs 4, SO

At Toronto, Andy McDonald and Brad Boyes scored in a shootout to lift St. Louis.

Storming back from an early 3-0 deficit, the Blues tied it at 4 at 4:21 of the third period on Paul Kariya's backhander to set up the dramatic finish in the only meeting of the season between the teams.

Tomas Kaberle, Nikolai Kulemin and Alexei Ponikarovsky scored the early goals for Toronto, and Niklas Hagman had one in the second period.

Boyes had the Blues' first goal 33 seconds into the second period, and Patrik Berglund and Keith Tkachuk scored power-play scores 48 seconds apart to tie the score.

Manny Legace stopped Nik Antropov, allowed a goal to Kulemin and then stopped Pavel Kubina in the shootout to win it. Vesa Toskala was beaten by both St. Louis shooters.

Predators 3, Blackhawks 2, SO

At Chicago, Rich Peverley and J.P. Dumont scored scored in the shootout to lift the Nashville Predators to a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night.

Shea Weber and Kevin Klein scored in regulation and Dan Ellis stopped 23 shots as the Predators spoiled the Blackhawks' home opener. Ellis stopped Patrick Kane and Martin Havlat in the shootout to secure the win.

Havlat and Patrick Sharp each had a goal and an assist in regulation for Chicago, which dropped to 0-2-1.

Cristobal Huet made 25 saves in his first regular-season home start for the Blackhawks.
