Sophomore Ronni Gautschi scored one of her game-high four goals in overtime to lift the fourth-seeded San Diego State women's water polo team to a 12-11 victory over seventh-seeded Cal at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships yesterday at SDSU.

With the victory, the Aztecs placed fifth at the conference tournament for the second consecutive year.

Anna Gonzales had a hat trick for SDSU and Danielle Pelke added two goals. Tiphanie Elliott, Jenna Schuster and Becca Ur rounded out the Aztecs' scoring. Senior goalkeeper Heather Fenske blocked 13 shots.

SDSU (29-6) tied a program best for wins in a season. The Golden Bears dropped to 18-11.

Tritons pull out victory

The 16th-ranked UCSD women's team placed third at the Western Water Polo Association Championships in Los Angeles by defeating Santa Clara 8-7 on a last-second shot by Stephanie Bocian.

Santa Clara (19-13), trailing the Tritons (19-17) by four goals with nine minutes to play in regulation, rallied to tie it 7-7.
