DEL MAR REPORT
Wake Up Maggie wins Adoration Stakes

UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER

August 29, 2008

DEL MAR – Wake Up Maggie, ridden by Tyler Baze, took over the lead at midstretch and pulled away to a 2¾-length victory in yesterday's featured $86,000 Adoration Stakes.

The 5-year-old Irish-bred mare notched her sixth career win in 20 starts and second ungraded stakes victory in five U.S. outings for trainer Julio Canani since being imported from England.

Wake Up Maggie covered the mile on Polytrack in 1:35.42, a track record eclipsing the 1:36.12 of Muny on July 28. Overlooked in the betting and sent out at odds of nearly 16-1, Wake Up Maggie returned $33.40.

Super Freaky finished second, 1½ lengths in front of favored Model.
