Point Loma Nazarene University junior Sam Cyr shot 2-under-par 70 in the final round to capture the NAIA National Championship at Indiana National Golf Course in Plymouth, Ind.
Cyr posted rounds of 69-70-71-70 to shoot 280 and win the tournament by five shots over Blake Rowe-Sleeman of British Columbia.
“Sam had a great tournament and an unbelievable (final round),” said PLNU coach Ben Foster. “It was flawless.”
Cyr is the third PLNU golfer to win the national championship and the second in three years.
PLNU finished sixth, the school's third-best national showing. British Columbia was the champion, finishing 33 shots ahead of PLNU.
NCAA West Regional
San Diego State was in 20th and
USD in 25th after two rounds of the NCAA Western Regional men's golf tournament in Bremerton, Wash. The top 10 teams reach the NCAA National Championship, and with two rounds to go, the Aztecs are 11 strokes out of the No. 10 spot, the Toreros 24 strokes. SDSU's Aaron Goldberg is the top San Diego player, tied for 18th.
