UNION-TRIBUNE

May 17, 2008

Point Loma Nazarene University junior Sam Cyr shot 2-under-par 70 in the final round to capture the NAIA National Championship at Indiana National Golf Course in Plymouth, Ind.

Cyr posted rounds of 69-70-71-70 to shoot 280 and win the tournament by five shots over Blake Rowe-Sleeman of British Columbia.

“Sam had a great tournament and an unbelievable (final round),” said PLNU coach Ben Foster. “It was flawless.”

Cyr is the third PLNU golfer to win the national championship and the second in three years.

PLNU finished sixth, the school's third-best national showing. British Columbia was the champion, finishing 33 shots ahead of PLNU.

NCAA West Regional

San Diego State was in 20th and USD in 25th after two rounds of the NCAA Western Regional men's golf tournament in Bremerton, Wash.
