Wie shoots 65 to share early lead at LPGA Q-school

ASSOCIATED PRESS

10:30 a.m. December 4, 2008

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Michelle Wie ran off four straight birdies inside 8 feet late in the second round Thursday for a 7-under 65 that gave her a share of the lead among early finishers at the LPGA Tour qualifying tournament.

Playing the more forgiving Champions course at LPGA International, Wie hit driver on all but two holes and never came seriously close to making a bogey. With about half the field still playing, Wie was tied with Shiho Oyama (70) at 10-under 134.

The top 20 players after the 90-hole tournament Sunday earn their LPGA Tour cards for next season.

If no one catches the leaders, it will be the first time since the second round of the 2006 Evian Masters that Wie had at least the share of the lead after any round of any tournament.
