Barrett: The 136 anglers reported 1,663 bass, 20 crappie, 1 bluegill and 2 bullhead, all released. Open Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Reservations may be made through Ticketmaster at (619) 220-8497 or www.ticketmaster.com. Reservations for September will be sold Aug. 12 at 7 p.m.

Chollas: Open daily to youngsters 15 and under. San Diego Fly Fishers sponsors a Lend-A-Rod program on Sundays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and it includes free bait and tackle and fishing tips.

Cuyamaca: Private boats now are allowed on the lake, but the boats must be sprayed for quagga mussels by a high-pressure heated wash prior to entering the lake. Cost is $10 for the spraying and it's good for multiple trips to Cuyamaca so long as the boat is not used in another reservoir in between visits. Warmer water has sent trout deeper. Crappie and bullheads full speed, with catfish and bass also getting into the fray. Lake has a new RV group camp area that is set up for eight rigs, but has a minimum of four. The rate is $200 a night for all eight sites. Also, there are seven new tent sites in the Lone Pine area. Call (877) 581-9904 for details. Open daily.

Diamond Valley Lake: Year-long bass action continues, with most bass holding in about 10 to 25 feet of water. Jaime Hernandez and Jaime Jr. of Baldwin Park put together a stringer of bass that included a 4.45-pounder. They fished from shore and used purple plastic worms in the third cove. Jesse Mena, Hemet, 7.07-pound bass, drop-shotting a plastic worm, West Dam. Trout are deep, holding in between 20 and 40 feet of water. Drift fishing with night crawlers or trolling Kastmasters, Rapalas or Needlefish are all working. Striped bass action also improving. John Blanderson and Jorge Delgado of Temecula caught four stripers totaling over 20 pounds fishing with trout swimbaits on the East Dam. Open daily.

Dixon: Open daily, plus Friday and Saturday for night fishing.

El Capitan: Creel checks of 90 anglers showed 11 bass kept (97 bass released), 11 channel catfish and 3 bluegill. Summer schedule with Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays open for fishing, general boating and water contact activities (water-skiing, wakeboarding, Jet Skiing, towing inflatables in the front bay only); Sundays are open for fishing, boating, and water contact activities (in both the front bay and North Arm); Mondays are open for fishing and general boating only. Rental boats are available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. On Sundays they stop renting boats at 10 a.m. All persons entering reservoir property must purchase a day use permit.

Henshaw: Good action during the night fishing program on Friday and Saturday nights. Good fishing from the lake's 150-foot long “Fish-N-Float” dock. Good fishing for channel catfish and crappie. Annie and Arthur Law, West Covina, threw night crawlers in the morning and and shrimp in the afternoon onto the rocks on the right of the dam and caught catfish to 4 pounds. Bass action also fair, with Kenneth Alfred of San Diego casting lures near the aerator and landing a 3-and a 2½-pound bass, along with a 2-pound crappie. Open daily for fishing, plus Friday and Saturday for night fishing.

Hodges: The 111 anglers checked reported 2 bass kept (37 bass released), 61 bluegill, 16 crappie and 11 channel catfish. Matthew Sanger, Valley Center, stringer of channel catfish totaling 21.25 with a 10.80, mackerel, I-15 Freeway area. Open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Jennings: Catfish stirring here, with bigger ones on the prowl. Josh Price, Lakeside, 10-12 channel catfish, mackerel, close to shore in Hermit Cove. Fish Producers will drop another 1,000 pounds of channel catfish in the lake this week to spice things up. Open Friday 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.; Saturday, 5:30 a.m.-11:30 p.m.; Sunday, 5:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Check www.lakejennings.org for more information.

Loveland: The 102 anglers reported 36 bass (kept), 98 bass released, 3 bluegill. Open daily to hike-in fishing only on a limited area of shoreline. No permits required. Fishing license is required.

Miramar: The 108 anglers checked reported 2 bass kept (25 bass released), 39 bluegill, 18 channel catfish. Open daily to fishing. Pay fees at iron ranger or electronic pay station near the concession building.

Morena: Very good action for bluegill here, with fish up to 1½ pounds taken. Arius Garrett, stringer of bluegill that included a 1-8, night crawler and wax worms. Channel catfish also hitting. Any live blue catfish shown at the ranger station is worth a free day of fishing. Open daily.

Murray: The 92 anglers reported 5 bass kept (19 bass released), 68 bluegill, 1 channel catfish. Open daily to fishing and boating. Pay fees at iron rangers near the abandoned concession building or at key access points.

Otay, Lower: The 261 anglers reported 9 bass kept (339 bass released), 330 bluegill, 23 channel catfish, 1 rainbow trout and 1 blue catfish. Open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Pay fees at iron rangers near the boat launch and abandoned concession building. Boats now available for rent.

Otay, Upper: The 30 anglers checked reported 33 bass (all released). Open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday for fishing, sunrise to sunset. Upper Otay is a catch and release only fishery. Bait is not permitted, only artificial lures with barbless hooks. Boats are not permitted on Upper Otay, only shore fishing, waders and float tubes.

Poway: Ginger Guillen, Poway 4.9-pound catfish, mackerel, shoreline between the Dock and Pier. Tsob Fang, San Diego, 4.8-pound channel catfish, mackerel, Fishing Pier. Fair action on bass early. The Lake Poway Midnight Catfish Craze is set for Friday, August 15 from 4 p.m. to Midnight. Also, this year, the Lake Poway Grill and Tackle Store is offering a $100 cash prize for the heaviest catfish caught between 7 a.m. Wednesday and the closing of the lake on Sunday night. The prize will be awarded at 7 p.m. Saturday for the previous week's largest catch. All catfish must be weighed on the Dock in the presence of a Lake Poway Staff member who will record the weight and fisherman's information. All catfish weighed in for prizes must be released. Open Wednesday through Sunday, plus Friday and Saturday for night fishing. In order to prevent the introduction and infestation of quagga mussels, the following items are prohibited at Lake Poway: float tubes, private motors and anchors, live bait containers, fish finders, floating catch baskets, live bait from any source other than the Lake Poway concession, any items the staff considers to be potential contaminants.

Santee Lakes: Brad Pifer, 15, La Mesa, 4-2 and a 3-04 bass, Texas-rigged plastic worm, Lake 4. Mike Bentley, Lakeside, 27-7 catfish, night crawler, Lake 6. He was using an ultra light pole with 6-pound test line. He also released the big catfish. Holly Lewis, Bakersfield, 10-0 channel catfish, mackerel, Lake 6. Bluegill also biting near the docks and around the various rocks on the shoreline of the lakes. Try redworms or wax worms. Lakes 3 and 4 will split 1,000 pounds of channel catfish on Friday. San Vicente: The 107 anglers reported 3 bass kept (136 bass released), 119 bluegill, 8 blue catfish and 1 channel catfish. Steve Oudomsouk, San Diego, 113.40 blue catfish, new state record for blue catfish, mackerel, Quaide Point. Now on its summer schedule with Thursdays open to fishing and general boating only (no water contact), Fridays open to fishing, boating and water contact activities (waterskiing, wakeboarding, towing inflatables), Saturdays and Sundays open to boating and water contact only (no fishing). Rental boats are available on Thursdays and Fridays only. All persons entering reservoir property must purchase a day use permit. Due to construction, the shoreline from launch ramp to buoy line is closed to all activities. For construction schedules and information on the Emergency Storage Project, please check the San Diego County Water Authority's web site at www.sdcwa.org and click on San Vicente Dam Raise.

Sutherland: The 50 anglers checked reported 5 bass kept (145 bass released), 29 bluegill, 18 channel catfish and 5 carp. Tony Shandley, San Diego, 5.45 bass (released). Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Sweetwater: The 62 anglers reported 1 bass kept (20 bass released), 2 bluegill, 3 carp and 2 channel catfish. Open Saturday, Sunday and Monday to limited shoreline fishing only.

Wohlford: Bass fishing fair. Clemit Miner, Escondido, 9-12 bass (released), plastic worm, South Shore. Swim bait lures, plastic worms, and live golden shiners are working best for the bass now. Channel Catfish have been hitting cut mackerel, chicken liver, night crawlers, and shrimp in the channel at the East End. Carp are hitting dough balls. For more information, contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346. Ban on private boats remains in place due to the threat of quagga mussels. Other banned equipment include canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, etc. Rental boats available. Open daily.

STOCKING SCHEDULE

Catfish: Santee Lakes, 1,000 pounds, Friday. Jennings, 1,000 pounds.

Pt. Loma Sportfishing, H&M Landing, Fisherman's Landing: 176 anglers, eight full-day boats: 7 albacore, 12 yellowfin, 2 bluefin, 205 dorado, 620 yellowtail, 1 mako shark. 117 anglers, four half-day boats: 43 barracuda, 132 calico bass, 126 sand bass, 1 lingcod, 21 rockfish, 1 sculpin, 1 sheephead, 1 white sea bass, 55 mackerel, 5 bonito. 52 anglers, two three-quarter day boats: 5 yellowtail, 21 barracuda, 93 calico bass, 260 sand bass, 14 rockfish.

Seaforth: 66 anglers, three 1½ -day boats: 11 albacore, 2 bluefin, 4 yellowfin, 90 dorado, 215 yellowtail. 38 anglers, two three-quarter day boats: 2 yellowtail, 34 barracuda, 64 calico bass, 180 sand bass, 1 white fish, 8 sculpin, 30 mackerel. 98 anglers, two half-day boats: 5 yellowtail, 47 bonito, 128 barracuda, 62 calico bass, 2 sand bass, 14 rockfish. 13 anglers, one twilight boat: 1 yellowtail, 26 barracuda, 51 calico bass, 4 sand bass.

Mission Bay Sportfishing: 18 anglers, one overnight boat: 9 dorado, 61 yellowtail. 58 anglers, three half-day boats: 76 barracuda, 46 bonito, 75 calico bass, 13 rockfish, 5 sand bass, 2 sculpin, 1 sheephead, 40 yellowtail.

Oceanside: 18 anglers, one overnight boat: 25 yellowtail, 1 albacore, 16 dorado, 1 bluefin, 1 yellowfin. 34 anglers, one three-quarter day boat: 14 sand bass, 33 calico bass, 3 white fish, 1 halibut. 64 anglers, three half-day boats: 42 sand bass, 41 calico bass, 2 sheephead, 1 halibut, 7 sculpin, 35 rockfish, 25 white sea bass (released).

East Cape: Strong dorado and tuna bite early and late in the week. Billfish action improving, with sailfish, striped marlin and blue marlin all showing. John Ireland at Rancho Leonero Resort said the blue marlin fishing is the best it's been in years. Big bull dorado up to 50 pounds hitting. Smaller yellowfin up to 20 pounds also biting. Roosterfish in the 50-to 60-pound class showing. PGA golfer Nick Price, fishing with Rancho Leonero Resort manager Gary Barnes-Webb, combined for a 37-pound dorado, a 40-pound roosterfish and three pargo, with the largest going 20 pounds.

Cabo San Lucas: High boat for the week was the Fish Cabo, reporting in for one fishing day and showing one blue marlin released, 3 striped marlin released and four dorado. Larry Edwards of Cortez Yacht Charters said Fish Cabo owner Roberto Marquez reports that the marlin bite has taken off on the Pacific side, and he expects it to continue there as warmer currents keep getting pushed by offshore hurricanes. The overall combined fish counts for the Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet and the Fish Cabo Fleet for 36 fishing days showed 1 blue marlin released, 13 stripers, (11 released), 16 dorado, 1 shark, 2 giant squid, 10 yellowfin tuna and 8 dog toothed snapper.

Noteworthy: The third annual San Diego Saltwater Bass Showdown Series ended Sunday with a final shootout. The 15 two-angler teams that qualified had to catch a calico, sand and spotted bay bass to win. Heaviest three-bass stringer won, and that went to Tom Buckalew and Brett De Long (Team Quantum). They weighed in a 2.10-pound spotted bay bass, a 5.34 sand bass and a 3.06 calico bass and earned $695. Mike Ryba and Kyle Eady took second and $595 for three bass totaling 10.22 pounds.

Hunter Safety: Frank Alessio's next hunter safety education class is set for Aug. 9-10 at the Escondido Fish and Game club in Valley Center. Classes are set for 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. both days.
