High school football preview (City)

UNION-TRIBUNE

September 21, 2006

 Games today unless noted

The big game

Mission Hills (2-1) at Hoover (3-0), tomorrow, 3:30

With a quick-striking, high-powered offense, Hoover has outscored three opponents. The Cardinals should be tested this week when the third-year North County team visits. Hoover QB Corey Trisby and WRs Todd Doxey and Gary Lee are gold, but the line, led by Mario Gonzales, Lou Arteaga, Sergio Rodriguez, Fredrico Osuna and Ben Miranda, has given Trisby lots of time to throw. Focus on the pass and RB Anthony Wilson will make you pay. The defense is led by LB Jeremiah Wallace.

Player profile

Leo Ulman, Henry

On the field: The 6-foot, 200-pound linebacker was All-Eastern League last year. Ulman carries a 3.5 GPA and has been contacted by Colorado State, Oregon State, UTEP, Stanford and Princeton.

In the classroom: “I like English and economics. I want to go into business after school, be involved in the stock market and maybe open my own business. English is the basis for every subject. I set goals for every game. I get really frustrated if I don't reach those goals at halftime and it makes me play better in the second half.”

Outside class: “I like lifting weights. I watch football Saturday and Sunday. Sometimes I look at my position, but sometimes I just watch the game, especially if it's teams that are looking at me. I've always been a Wisconsin fan. I like to watch the Big Ten schools. A.J. Hawk (ex-Ohio State) influenced me a lot.”
