St. Joseph Academy of San Marcos defeated Lutheran 94-76 in a Citrus League 8-man football game Saturday at Grossmont College.
The 170 points set a San Diego Section scoring record. The old mark was 144, established in an 8-man game in 2004 when Borrego Springs defeated San Diego Jewish Academy 92-52.
St. Joseph's Paul Delgado rushed for 281 yards and seven touchdowns on 17 carries. He also scored on a 45-yard pass and added two two-point conversions. The 52 points set a section record for scoring in one game. The seven rushing TDs tied a section mark held by seven others.
Lutheran's Bryce Calloway tallied seven TDs for his side.
St. Joseph's (2-2) rolled up 649 total yards, while Lutheran (0-4) countered with 585 yards.

Oceanside, the top-ranked football team in the section, remains No. 6 in the state and No. 4 in Southern California, according to CalHiSports.com. Cathedral Catholic, No. 2 in the section, is rated No. 19 in the region. Long Beach Poly remains at the top of both polls.
In girls volleyball, La Costa Canyon remains No. 1 in the nation, according to PrepVolleyball.com.

Caitlin Tomaska arrived, Connecticut College was 29-46 in three previous years of women's volleyball competition. Now a senior, the Torrey Pines graduate is rewriting the school's records. Tomaska has 1,239 digs and 1,199 kills and stands to be the first in school history to top 1,200 in each category for the Camels, who are 66-33 (.667) over Tomaska's career.
Yale junior outside hitter Alexis Crusey (Francis Parker) was named the Ivy League Player of the Week.
Fairfield junior Katie Mann (Torrey Pines) was named co-Offensive Player of the Week by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference after leading the volleyball team to victories against Niagara and Canisius.
Navy cross country runner Katie Rentz (Mt. Carmel) was honored as the Patriot League Runner of the Week.
Brandeis rookie golfer Aaron Cusato (Point Loma) was selected University Athletic Association Golfer of the Week.
Jeremy Young (El Cajon Valley) leads Ouachita Baptist University in all-purpose yards and has caught 32 passes for 327 yards and two TDs.

Peter Thomas is clicking on almost 70 percent of his 129 passes. Equally as impressive, Thomas has thrown 17 touchdown passes while being intercepted once.
The next step
La Costa Canyon's
Jackie Candelaria has accepted a scholarship to play lacrosse at Stanford.
Candelaria, who carries a 4.2 grade-point average, was a U.S. Lacrosse All-America honorable mention and all-section pick. Recruited by Duke, Johns Hopkins and Cal, Candelaria will be the first girl from Southern California to play lacrosse for the Cardinal.
