Sasha Cohen seemed to display newfound poise and maturity, as well as her usual flexibility, in placing first in the short program.
What's Inside

Short story

Cohen leads Slutskaya, but barely, after one night's skating

STAFF WRITER

TURIN, Italy – Sasha Cohen insists it's different this time, how she's older and wiser and more experienced. How reading Lance Armstrong's book has given her a different outlook on competition, how reading John Wooden's book taught her to stay in the present and not leap to the future, how seeing the Chinese pairs skater get up after a horrific fall last week and win the silver medal taught her the meaning of “real strength.”

Former G.I., Spirit player now bobsled medalist

Versatile Rohbock drives U.S. to silver

    STAFF WRITER

CESANA PARIOL, Italy – This, they can't take away from Shauna Rohbock. The first time she was headed for the Winter Olympics, Rohbock got yanked right out of the back of a bobsled, the vehicle driven by Jill Bakken to a gold medal and history in Salt Lake City.

      Davis-Hedrick showdown won by Italian

      STAFF WRITER

TURIN, Italy – Good thing Italy's Enrico Fabris was the upset winner of speed skating's 1,500 meters yesterday, ahead of Americans Shani Davis in second and Chad Hedrick in third. That way, Davis and Hedrick didn't have to stand next to each other on the medals podium.
