Army deaths: A roadside bomb killed a U.S. soldier on patrol in northwestern Baghdad on Sunday, the U.S. military said. Spc. Joseph A. Ford, 23, of Knox, Ind., died Saturday in Asad after a vehicle accident. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 152nd Cavalry Regiment, 76th Brigade Combat Team, Indiana National Guard, New Albany, Ind. Spc. Mary J. Jaenichen, 20, of Temecula died Friday in Iskandariyah of a noncombat injury. Jaenichen, who graduated from El Camino High School in Oceanside in 2006, was assigned to the Brigade Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

U.S. forces kill 3: U.S. forces said they killed three armed men during an operation Sunday night in Baghdad's Hurriyah district targeting a suspected kidnapper. The military said troops killed the men after being fired on. Suspects were detained. Neighbors said those killed were students not linked to gangs or militias.

Air-conditioner bomb: A bomb hidden in an air conditioning unit at the main police station in Nasiriyah wounded two policemen.

U.S. deaths in Afghanistan: Army Sgt. Isaac Palomarez, 26, of Loveland, Colo., died Friday in Kapisa province of wounds sustained from an explosive device and small-arms fire. He was was assigned to 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky. Pfc. Ara T. Deysie, 18, of Parker, Ariz., died Friday in Paktia province of wounds sustained from an explosive device. Deysie was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky. Army Pvt. Matthew W. Brown, 20, of Zelienople, Pa., died Sunday in Asadabad of injuries from a noncombat incident. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Fires Brigade (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C. Two soldiers died Wednesday in Sabari district when their vehicle struck an explosive device. Killed were: Army Spc. Jeremy R. Gullett, 22, of Greenup, Ky. He was assigned to 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell. Staff Sgt. Kevin C. Roberts, 25, of Farmington, N.M. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, Fort Campbell.
