MORNING SURF
Garth signs on for '90210' spinoff

May 14, 2008

The wild kids of television's West Beverly High will have a guidance counselor familiar with the posh ZIP code's dating, drugs and drama.

Jennie Garth will reprise her role as Kelly Taylor and join the cast of a planned “Beverly Hills, 90210” spinoff on CW.

She won't be a regular, but she will play a guidance counselor at her alma mater, The Hollywood Reporter explained online Saturday.

Garth, 36, departed the CBS comedy pilot “My Best Friend's Girl” last month.

ABC lines up new fall series

ABC is betting there's “Life on Mars.”

The quirky sci-fi thriller, based on the hit BBC series of the same name, is expected to be one of the few new series to make it on ABC's fall schedule, Daily Variety reports.

Also new on the docket: The Ashton Kutcher-produced reality series “Opportunity Knocks,” which has scored a 13-episode order.

“Opportunity Knocks” revolves around contestants who wind up answering trivia questions for prizes at their own home.

ABC also has given a 13-episode commitment to the animated series “The Goode Family,” which will be ready for air in January.
