A brief news story on Page A4 yesterday described numbers of minority students at UCSD and the entire University of California incorrectly. The percentages given were acceptance rates within each group, not the percentage in the freshman class last year. For the University of California, 4 percent of black students who applied, 20 percent of Latinos who applied and less than 1 percent of American Indian students who applied were accepted. At UC San Diego, 27 percent of black students who applied and 37 percent of Latino students who applied were accepted. The numbers for UCSD were more than “slightly higher” than those for the entire system, as the story said.
