OTAY MESA – The stale stench of gas hangs over the junkyards. Crashed cars, rusting wheels and assorted doors and windshields surround the runway at Brown Field, the Otay Mesa airport that is still falling short of its promise.

        Yesterday wasn't Mother's Day but it sure felt like it at Maggie Moo's Ice Cream and Treatery. Employee Erin Jook said the Rancho Bernardo shop typically has its busiest day of the year on the annual holiday, but the throng of customers Saturday and yesterday rivaled those sales.

          Weed-choked berms along road are just plain ugly, resident says

          A series of tall dirt berms along the east side of Sweetwater Road in Spring Valley may help block traffic noise from nearby state Route 125, but they aren't much to look at.
