Senior men's tennis starts today at Morgan Run

May 19, 2008

Senior women having concluded a USTA National Hardcourts tournament at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, senior men begin taking their cuts at Morgan Run today with divisions for ages 75, 80 and 85.

The tournament at Morgan Run has attracted the deepest draw of any of the USTA's tests at these age levels, according to tournament director Tom Zeman. In the 75s, a division with 37 singles entrants, George McCabe is the No. 1 seed.

At the Barnes Center, meantime, boys 14 and under are continuing one of four tournaments being held nationally at this age level. The first three finishers qualify for the USTA Nationals.

Gregory Garcia of Poway, a 12-year-old challenging older players in the 14s event, had James Boyd of Rancho Santa Fe, the No. 5 seed, outplay him 6-2, 6-0.
