Jonas Brothers make surprise appearance

RANCHO PENASQUITOS – At Adobe Bluffs Elementary School yesterday, the three R's included rock 'n' roll. The Jonas Brothers, one of the hottest pop bands of the moment, thrilled a screaming crowd of nearly 700 children in an unannounced, 20-minute morning concert on the playground.

      ROSARITO BEACH – The body of a La Mesa woman with ties to Mexico was among four discovered Sunday in a rural canyon east of Rosarito Beach. All had been shot to death.

        Mike Gotch loved the beach and the desert, and he spent much of his professional and personal time advocating for environmental causes. A hard-working Democrat with movie-star looks, the former San Diego city councilman and state assemblyman loved the outdoors and relished his role in government.

          S.D. mom in the running for healthy-living title

          San Diegan MaryKay Mullally has a chance to become a national symbol of healthy living. Mullally, 47, a Torrey Hills mother, is one of five finalists for ABC News/Prevention magazine's 2008 “Picture of Health” title. Currently, Mullally is in second place in the Internet vote, which ends May 31.
