Party nominations at stake for Congress, Legislature

San Diego voters will go to the polls today to render a verdict on whether Mayor Jerry Sanders and City Attorney Michael Aguirre deserve another term. While the two citywide contests are the most high-profile races, voters across San Diego County will be deciding a host of party nominations for Congress and the Legislature. Voters will also weigh in on city council and school board races as well as city propositions.

    SACRAMENTO – Amid growing state budget problems, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's roller-coaster job approval ratings have again plummeted, from 60 percent in December to 41 percent late last month, according to a new Field Poll.

          Rock pioneer's influence felt all over music

          POP MUSIC CRITIC

          Bo Diddley, a founding father of rock 'n' roll, an unsung pioneer of rap and one of the most influential musicians of the past 50 years, died yesterday morning from heart failure at his Florida home, outside Gainesville. He was 79 and over the past 13 months had suffered a stroke and a heart attack that prevented him from performing the rhythmically charged music long synonymous with his name.
