Entrepreneurs rent out scooters to make border crossings quicker

Jesús Alberto Nuñez walked up to the San Ysidro Port of Entry expecting to quickly cross into the United States. What the Tijuana resident found was a wait of at least an hour.
Fearing he would be late to his job as a mechanic for the Metropolitan Transit System, he rented a scooter yesterday, snaked in between the waiting cars and drove to the front of the line. Minutes later, he was in San Ysidro and on a bus.

Truck and bus drivers experienced a day of chaos in Tijuana yesterday, as they chased a dwindling supply of diesel fuel. Today was shaping up to be even worse. For weeks, drivers from the United States have snapped up Mexican diesel, which is selling for about 50 percent less than in California.
Golf game goes south, of course
Local biotech leader Hank Nordhoff says his foray on the U.S. Open course in a charity event Tuesday turned into a golfer's nightmare. Nordhoff broke his wedge warming up, then broke the replacement wedge trying to get out of the rough. He bit his lip. His watch popped off. He broke a dental crown.
