CAMP PENDLETON –
A 25-year-old Marine sergeant was killed during his second combat assignment in Afghanistan, military officials said.
Staff Sgt. Christopher D. Strickland died Wednesday in a roadside bombing in Helmand province, according to a Defense Department statement.
Strickland, 25, a native of LaBelle, Fla., was assigned to the 1st Marine Logistics Group, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.
He was an ordnance disposal technician, but officials said it was not immediately clear if his death was related to his job. Strickland, who had also served one combat tour in Iraq, was married and the father of a 3-year-old boy. –AP
