The San Diego Union-Tribune

WatchList

June 29, 2008

MONDAY

Mission improbable

School districts must have adopted their budgets for the next year by today.

Angle: How accurate can districts be when Gov. Schwarzenegger and the Legislature won't agree before summer's end on a state budget, source of most education funding?

TUESDAY

Can you say Bluetooth?

Drivers using hand-held cell phones may be ticketed starting today.

Angle: Driving remains one of the few activities during which teens can't talk on any kind of phone.

Chain, chain, chain

A new limit of four bicycles per car kicks in on the Sprinter passenger train between Escondido and Oceanside.

Angle: With gas prices skyrocketing and ridership down since the March opening, shouldn't the North County Transit District be encouraging, not discouraging, two-wheel travel?

SUNDAY

Hamburger on the hoof

The last day to pay $12 for urban adults, $6 for urban seniors 62 and up and urban children 6-12 to see genuine farm animals up close and personal at the San Diego County Fair.

Angle: An additional $9 to park at the Del Mar Fairgrounds busts the budget, shuttles run 9 a.m. to midnight from the Del Mar Horsepark, MiraCosta College San Elijo campus and Torrey Pines High School.
