Happy hour

July 3, 2008

RA (as in Raw)

474 BROADWAY

(619) 321-0021

Looking for sushi so fresh it just might get up and crawl off your plate? Ra, downtown's posh new sushi restaurant, offers mouthwatering expensive treats at a low budget happy hour price.

Don't be fooled by the swanky black-and-red decor – you won't have to sell the farm for a night out at this sushi bar. Happy Hour – from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday – features $1 hot sake, and rolls for under $4. Featuring high-quality sashimi, and much better service than those all-you-can-eat joints, Ra is how the Gaslamp does sushi.

Though you won't sacrifice quality or service, you may injure your eardrums because the DJ-spun music is more raucous than a huge bite of wasabi! Yum-O!

HEARD ON UTSTREET.COM

Seem some folks are not all that thrilled with some of our coverage. Join the conversation:

From Robert: “I cannot believe the U-T did not provide any substantial coverage on the Critical Mass ride in June. There were well over 1,000 riders and about 200 of them decided to ride on the 94, recklessly endangering lives and causing snarling traffic. Are the SD Police really that oblivious to a mob of 1,000 plus cyclists that have no regard for traffic laws? Sometimes I wonder if the U-T really has a pulse of what is going on within the city.”

From Richard Rollington: “I agree with Robert about one thing, it is surprising that the U-T didn't cover the 1200+ (according to three separate counts) ride on Friday night. That's a large group of people taking to the streets.

“I disagree with Robert about everything else, however. It seemed that more than 200 people were on the 94, based on the size of the group for the rest of the ride. Also, it's not clear exactly which lives were endangered, since the 94 has very little traffic at night, and all the riders kept to the rightmost shoulder – there was no traffic jam on the 94 due to CM riders.

“Lastly, bicycles don't cause traffic - bicycles ARE traffic. The roadways aren't exclusively for cars. Cyclists routinely face getting cut off by inattentive drivers, having doors opened into them by people who can't bother to look before they get out of their cars, and knuckleheads who camp out in bike lines while chewing the fat with their friends. CM is one night out of the month where cyclists can ride without fear of getting clocked by clueless motorists.

“Why not try joining the ride next month, Robert? You might have a good time, sounds like you're in dire need of some fun.”
