THE SKINNY

The Padres tonight will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their second National League pennant before playing host to the team they defeated in the 1998 NLCS. The game is to start at 7:15 to accommodate the festivities.

Padres starter Greg Maddux went 18-9 with a 2.22 ERA during the 1998 regular season for the Braves and defeated the Cubs in the game that sent the Braves to the NLCS.

But Maddux was the losing pitcher in Game 3 of the NLCS at Qualcomm Stadium as the Padres took a 3-0 series lead. Two nights later, however, Maddux picked up the only save of his career to force the series back to Atlanta.

Maddux is winless in his past 11 starts, a streak that started after he claimed his 350th career victory on May 10. He is 0-4 with seven no-decisions (the Padres are 6-5 in those games) in the second-longest winless streak of his career.

Maddux's 2.36 ERA in 10 starts at Petco Park is the fourth-lowest home ERA in the NL. His home record: 2-1.
