PUBLIC EYE
It's a boy and a girl

July 14, 2008

Brad Pitt was emotional but calm, Angelina Jolie laughed and chatted.

The world's most famous celebrity couple were joined in emotion during the birth of their twins – a boy and a girl – and all “are doing marvelously well,” the doctor who delivered the babies in a seaside hospital on the French Riviera said yesterday.

The newborns – Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline – were born one minute apart Saturday evening.

Jolie's obstetrician, Dr. Michel Sussmann, said the 44-year-old Pitt was at Jolie's side during the delivery, looking on as the doctor performed a Caesarean section to deliver Knox, weighing in at slightly over 5 pounds, and Vivienne, who weighed 5 pounds.

Sussmann said Jolie, 33, is expected to stay in the hospital for a few more days and that she now needs rest. The four other Jolie-Pitt children – Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh, 2 – have not yet seen their new sister and brother, he said.

The doctor said he believed the baby girl's middle name was chosen in honor of Jolie's mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand, who died in January 2007 after a 712-year battle with cancer.

ARRESTED ON LOCATION

Actors Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Wright, along with members of a crew filming an Oliver Stone movie, were arrested during a bar fight Saturday morning, police said.

Shreveport, La., police Sgt. Willie Lewis said Brolin, Wright and five others were arrested just after 2 a.m. at a club called the Stray Cat bar.

The Times of Shreveport reported that they are part of the crew on a Stone film, “W,” about President George W. Bush.

Brolin appeared in three films last year, “In the Valley of Elah,” “American Gangster” and “No Country for Old Men,” which won the best-picture Oscar.

Wright won a Tony Award for “Angels in America” on Broadway and a Golden Globe for the same role in the television miniseries. He also has appeared in “Syriana,” “Ali” and “Casino Royale.”

PETE SEEGER TO THE RESCUE

Folk singer Pete Seeger is coming to the aid of New England farmers.

Seeger, 89, will headline a Sept. 13 New England Farm Relief Concert in Brattleboro, Vt., to raise money for a new micro-loan program being developed by The Carrot Project and the organization that operates the town's annual Strolling of the Heifers.

Seeger, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is known for hits including “Where Have All the Flowers Gone,” “If I Had a Hammer” and “Turn, Turn, Turn.”

QUEST RETURNS TO CNN

CNN reporter Richard Quest has returned to the cable news channel after a hiatus stemming from his drug arrest and court-ordered counseling, a spokesman for the Atlanta-based network said.

Quest, known for his boisterous and quirky reporting, returned to CNN International in late June and has been producing general news segments and working on the August edition of “CNN Business Traveler,” the show he hosted before his arrest.
