Peter Tereschuck was there at the creation, and it wasn't always pretty. Standing next to a set of San Diego Trolley tracks on a recent afternoon, he recalled with a grin the glitches that dogged the 1981 debut of the light-rail system.

SAN YSIDRO – The shooting of a Mexican man by a U.S. Border Patrol agent during a rock-throwing incident west of the San Ysidro border crossing drew a rebuke yesterday from the Mexican Consulate in San Diego and a demand that U.S. authorities conduct a “thorough investigation.”

CAMP PENDLETON – Vice President Dick Cheney made a brief visit to Camp Pendleton yesterday before heading to Orange County for a fundraiser. He flew on Air Force Two from a campaign stop in Colorado and reached the base at 2:22 p.m.
Democrats, colleagues lend councilman support
Tuesday was a great day for Steve Castañeda. Castañeda is the Chula Vista councilman who was acquitted in April of perjury charges related to accusations that he used his position to seek free rent or a reduced price on a condominium.
