There they were, the four female stage artists, soaking in the power and truth of Eve Ensler's play about obsessions with physical perfection. Then, their own publicity photos came in. Suddenly, instead of heeding “The Good Body's” call to rise above shallow notions of beauty, they were rushing to judgment about their own bellies and thighs.

La Jolla author gives voice to Gitmo's voiceless

La Jolla and Guantanamo Bay are both by the ocean, but that's about where the similarities end. One is known for wealth and luxury, the other for deprivation. Mahvish Rukhsana Khan straddles both worlds. She lives in La Jolla, and for the past two years she's traveled regularly to “Gitmo,” working as a translator for lawyers representing terrorism suspects housed there.
